Lantern Festival at Valley Brook Tea

To end the 2020 Chinese New Year festivities, the CIUS Center partnered with Valley Brook Tea to celebrate the Lantern Festival within the heart of Washington, DC. Almost 100 DuPont Circle community members joined the festivities in a beautiful Chinese tea house, decorated with fans, lanterns, and authentic Chinese teaware.

Tea Tasting Demonstration

Valley Brook Tea owner, Yunhan Zhang, spent the evening leading tea-making demonstrations and tastings. He shared his extensive knowledge of Chinese tea culture and engaged with community members who plan to return for the grand opening of the tea shop on February 14th. Community members were excited to learn about and taste authentic Chinese teas while getting a sneak peek of DuPont Circle’s newest business.

Traditional Lantern Riddles

Along with delicious food and tea, community members also participated in the traditional Chinese lantern riddle game. Dozens of riddles hung from red lanterns and challenged guests to figure out fun Chinese language and culture brain teasers. Want to test out your Lantern Riddle skills?
