About the National Honors Gala:

On Saturday, November 18, 2017, the Confucius Institute U.S. Center will host its 2nd Annual National Honors Gala at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. 300 business leaders, public officials, educators, scholars, artists & media representatives will gather to honor our ten People-to-People Award honorees. These ten exemplary Confucius Institute (CI) students have been selected from the 110 CIs in universities and schools across the country based on their personal stories, experiences, and engagement with Chinese language, cultural, and global education programs.

The Gala provides public support for the Confucius Institute U.S. Center (CIUS Center), a non-partisan 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing global education programs that enhance people-to-people exchange and global education programs. Since the first Confucius Institute was founded in 2004 at the University of Maryland, more than 500 Confucius Institutes have been established to serve academic, teaching and educational communities worldwide.

The net proceeds of the 2017 Honors Gala will directly support the CIUS Center’s core program areas:

Education and Professional Development
Support Chinese language learning initiatives by connecting school districts interested in developing a Chinese language curriculum to the appropriate resources and support. We also provide professional development opportunities to Confucius Classroom teachers who are teaching in the K-12 schools systems in America to ensure the continuation of high quality Chinese language instruction to students across America.

Arts and Culture
Committed to creating opportunities for cultural exchange through the arts. We organize exhibitions, performances, and discussions related to Chinese and American Culture and house a small gallery which displays a rotating calendar of exhibitions related to Chinese history and culture.

Academics and Research
Leveraging the CIUS Center’s US-China global education convening power we serve the scholarly community through programming that brings higher education experts, teachers and the academicians together to collaborate on research, program innovation & exchange programs.

Public Relations and Outreach
To strengthen and support people-to-people engagement opportunities between China and the United States, this program establishes public awareness and promotes the achievements of Confucius Institutes in America through partnerships with organizations of similar vision and public events.
