In our current national and global climate, it remains evident that each individual, organization, and sector plays a vital role in ensuring justice, equity, and inclusion within our communities. It is well known that language and cultural education builds cross-cultural competencies and supports creativity, critical thinking, and global citizenship. With this in mind, the world language classroom is uniquely suited to challenge bias, stereotypes, and nurture student voice and agency.
Language is a powerful tool and as we continue to work toward addressing the structural issues that perpetuate racial inequality, particularly here in the United States, this discussion will explore the role of foreign language education in supporting social justice. While also highlighting steps being taken specifically within the Chinese language education community.
