China, A Haven for Jewish Refugees

On April 28, 2017, The Confucius Institute U.S. Center will welcome Dr. Liliane Willens for a presentation and discussion surrounding her book Stateless in Shanghai. Dr. Willens will elaborate on the experiences of Jewish communities in China during and after the Japanese military occupation of Shanghai, during the Chinese civil war following the the end of World War II, and highlight the departure of these Jewish communities before the arrival of the People’s Liberation Army in Shanghai in May 1949.
