In response to the growing need for global collaboration in understanding and ultimately stemming the spread of the coronavirus, the CIUS Center is offering translation services and language resources free of charge to medical facilities around the United States.
As the coronavirus continues to spread, one thing is clear: viruses know no nationality. However, differences in language and culture often create barriers to addressing the spread of global epidemics. When asked about the role organizations like the Confucius Institute U.S. Center can play durring a global health crisis Dr. Anne Schuchat had this to say:
The communication aspects of an emerging infection are really critical to both understand concerns and communicate effectively to the different groups… I think the language and cultural competency of an organization like yours can be an asset to this type of response.
The nature of our work provides us with a worldwide volunteer network of bilingual language resources as well as the medical expertise and knowledge base of medical schools. We are available to assist as a useful resource to assist medical communities with free language translation services and insight into understanding cultural differences for those assisting coronavirus patients.
