In December 2018, Confucius Institute Alumni traveled to Chengdu and Beijing with the CIUS Center for the inaugural People-to-People China Trip.
As winners of the CIUS Center People-to-People Award, each participant demonstrated their commitment to Chinese language and cultural education by sharing their Confucius Institute stories. This unique trip brought together honorees from a variety of diverse backgrounds for an experience focused specifically on the meaningful impact of people-to-people exchanges.
Some participants, like Dennis Delehanty (Confucius Institute at George Mason University), who has over 35 years of experience as a U.S. State Department International Affairs Officer, were veteran travelers to China. Others, like Trinity Lewis, an aspiring wildlife conservationist from the Confucius Institute at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, were able to visit the country for the first time. The Confucius Institute program prides itself on offering educational opportunities to students of all ages, backgrounds, and language levels. While it is unlikely that Dennis and Trinity’s paths would have crossed outside of the program, during the trip they were both able to learn and grow as global citizens by exploring their shared interests in Chinese language and culture.
Throughout the trip, all participants had the opportunity to continue developing their #CIStory while building long-lasting relationships within the Confucius Institute community. Thank you to all of the participants for your commitment to global education and a special thank you to the local Confucius Institutes who helped develop the foundations of each participants unique Confucius Institute story.
