The event began with an introduction to the field of ethnomusicology by Dr. Kendra Salois of American University.   Space is limited for this special artistic workshop! Register today to create your own traditional Chinese style paintings under the guidance of a trained artist. Instructor Robert B. Bernhards has partnered with the Confucius Institute U.S. Center to teach Chinese traditional painting and writing techniques for the purpose of improving understanding between Eastern and Western cultures. Bob is working with the CIUS Center for the second time after previously instructing students in Chinese fan painting.

Beyond the Wall: Film Screening

On November 9, 2017 at 6:30 pm the Confucius Institute U.S. Center will host a discussion and film screening of the independent documentary film Beyond the Wall. The film tells the story of four DCPS high school students who were selected for a six-week Chinese language and culture program in Beijing in summer 2009. This opportunity was offered at no cost to the students through a partnership with Americans Promoting Study Abroad (APSA), with partial funding from the US State Department. We are proud to showcase a collection of calligraphy works by Ye Huazhou, a contemporary master calligrapher who has won numerous national prizes and awards for his work.
